Plan Description
The Ho’ala Student Plan is a discount dental program made specifically for individuals attending school. Ho’ala is not an insurance company and there is no insurance company involved. This means lower administrative costs and higher savings for our patients. Members of this program simply receive discounted prices on dental procedures of up to 81% off of regular prices. The discounted prices for our services are provided to you in advance so that you know exactly how much you will be paying for the treatment you receive.
Eligibility
An eligible member of the Ho’ala Student Plan must reside in Hawaii, pay the applicable membership fees, and fall within one of the following categories:
- You are a student enrolled at least half-time in regular credit programs at a University; or
- You are a student enrolled for credit in a continuing education program, postdoctoral fellow, or participating in a University sponsored program; or
- You are a visiting colleague with a non-compensatory appointment.
Dependent Coverage
Dependents of eligible members are also able to enroll in the Ho’ala Student Plan for the same benefits and period as the member as long as they are the spouse, domestic partner or unmarried dependent children under the age of 19.

You will be sent a membership card in the mail approximately one week following the receipt of your payment. The membership card is proof of membership in the Ho’ala Dental Program and must be presented at any Hawaii Family Dental Centers location at the time of your visit. Lost cards should be immediately reported so that a replacement membership card may be issued.
Exceptions to enrollments after the enrollment period ends will require the approval of the Ho’ala Dental Plan Coordinator. Premiums will not be prorated and coverage will not be retroactive.
Using Your Benefits
Coverage will be effective on the first date of the coverage period selected. Coverage for students applying after the effective date, but before the enrollment period ends, shall begin the day the application and correct payment is postmarked or is received by the Ho’ala Dental Plan Coordinator, whichever is earlier.
Call the dental center of your choice from our list of network providers and schedule an appointment. Your fixed out of pocket costs will be presented to you and collected the day you receive services.
Payment Schedule
Each member shall be eligible for the dental services at the discounted prices set forth in the Payment Schedule. All payments for services are to be paid directly to the dental office by the patient, and will be collected at the time service is rendered. There is no maximum benefit dollar amount for dental services received under the program.
